Emerging Color Stamping Technique

Ok, I'll admit it...I really love stamping and the more I stamp the more I want to stamp. It's a wonderfully vicious circle. Emerging Color is one of those techniques that have some very basic and constant elements to it, but the creative license is all yours in how you present it. I'm sure if you Google or YouTube you will find a ton of tutorials and a lot of them will be very similar. Emerging Color boils down to this one word: resist. This is at its very core a resist technique. The whole trick to doing this is to remember that you will work in layers.

This page was created using this month's sketch.  My baby girl is holding a frog, in case you couldn't tell.  Hence the name "kiss".

Using the Silk Acrylic Glaze that came in the main kit, I used a paint brush to create a splatter effect on my page.  This month's sketch is below.

Don't ask me where this page came from cuz I have no idea.  LOL  Something about the paper screamed Poppies.  Ok, now I really sound crazy don't I?

I really, really love the Color Shine mist that is available this month.  It is such a nice shade of green.

I really enjoyed working the the papers in this month kit.  They are soft and vintage and feel like tapestry to me.  Right up my alley!

This page was created for the sketch that came with the kit.  It really took on a life of its own.

I used special scissors that cut fringe and went randomly around my paper and then crinkled them up a bit.  Rather than using 3 photos, I created a mat to go behind my single photo.

We received some Junkyard Findings and metal Tim Holtz hinges in our Embellishment add on and I kind of just dumped them on my page and glued them almost where they landed.

I fell in love with the barn siding on one of the kit papers and decided to cut it into strips and then cut smaller strips in a few of them and curl them back.  I'm  not sure why, but my brain wanted to make it look a bit like bark on a birch tree.  You know how the bark peels off in curly-q type of pieces?  Yup, that's what I was trying to accomplish.  LOL

So, I'm looking through a magazine that came in the mail and I saw one of the most unique ladies' watch I've seen in a really long time and I instantly wondered what something similar would look like translated to a scrapbook page.  Weird how your mind just kind of shoots out into left field, ya know?

This ended up being a super loose translation of that watch.  I do have creative license, right?  LOL  I love to emboss Core'dinations card stock and this month's card stock add on was all Core'dinations.

I used my Cameo to cut the flowers and my Cuttlebug to emboss the petals and voila!  A really super big flower.

I used flowers from our flower add on to create the center of the flower and added the gorgeous pendant from Maya Road that was in our kit as well.  Throw in some wood buttons and a few small vines and there you have it.  Out of room!  LOL

I hope you are enjoying our hop.  I am always amazed at what our designers come up and how absolutely different this kit looks with all of them.

Thanks for stopping by!
XO, Lisa

Vintage Chic

Make sure to stop by our Facebook page and "like us".  This way you can keep up on all of the other little things that goes on with Swirlydoos!!

This is my favorite page with this kit.  I really enjoyed putting it together.  I played with fire.  One of my fave distressing techniques.  I burned the edges of the paper.  Then I fussy cut a thick border line from around each of the globe maps on the paper and took the small strip and flipped it over and used it as an accent piece around the maps.  I also placed back card stock behind as an accent. I added drippy globs (yes, that is a technical term)  LOL using the Olive Vine Silk Acrylic Glaze that came in the kit.

I fussy cut images from some of the other paper in the kit.  I used some of the foil tape that came in the kit to create a frame and using my finger and a metal embossing plate, I embossed the the tape.  I applied some black paint to a paper towel and lightly swiped it across the embossed foil to give it age and dimension.  I finished off my "picture" by using some liquid pearls to highlight the flowers and leaves.

This page was created for our monthly kit sketch.  Here is the sketch:

I used the stencil and black gesso that came in our embellishment add on to create the damask images on the paper.  Then I used Ranger's Green Patina mist over the top.
I used kit paper and the foil tape to create my sunflower.  I added some paint to the foil tape to make my flower pop just a little.  I finished it off by adding a button embellishment from Petaloo as a flower center.

I had a lot of fun matching the hue in my photographs with the paper.  This is one of my fave photos from a few years back and it really goes well with the paper.  I used some white gesso on the edges as well as white paint and a honeycomb mask.

I added some white gesso to my flowers and some blingy rhinestones to my metal pieces.

I had fun creating the dashes around the main focal points of my page using a white marker.  I used a butterfly punch and some kit paper along with some of the trim that came in the kit to create my butterflies.

This is a page I created for this month's kit sketch.  I used a picture of my DH's grandmother.  This picture was taken 101 years ago in 1912.  Crazy, huh?
Here is the sketch.  It is an oldie but a goodie!

I added some stamping and liquid pearls along with some pop dots to give my page dimension.

This is a photo of my DD at one of her piano recitals.  I really love it.  I used a piece of the coordinated card stock  in this month's add on.  I stamped around the edge and then added some additional stamping to the patterned paper over the top of it.  I really love to use string pearls whenever I can.  I think they add a touch of romance.

I used the resin piece that came in one of our add ons and fussy cut some pf the patterned paper with use with in the frame and then embellished it with pearls.

This is an older photo of my DD when we were at the park ice skating.  We had a good time that morning.  I used some of the coordinating card stock and my Cameo to cut out the large snowflakes and flowers.  I used some of the "punched-out" dots from the snowflakes on my page as well and and added glossy accents to the top of them to make them look wet and give them dimension.

The coordinating card stock is Core'dinations.  I decided to sand my flower layers to give them some texture and visual interest.

I cut out this faux magazine cover from the patterned paper and covered it in 3 layers of UTEE and then cracked it to give it a cracked glass look.

Our paper came with a page for each month of the year that was packed with mini pictures and tags.  Makes it easy to make cards.

This is a card I made for a friend of ours that just got her PhD.  Her name is Andrea and we decided to start calling her Dr. Dre.  LOL  There was a party for her this past Saturday and this is the card that I made for her.

Thank you for stopping by and for supporting the Swirlydoos' designers and kits!!  I appreciate your comments!!
